As I have sort of taken a small break from posting much, Mother's Day came and went. In Russia they celebrate Mother's Day in November, so since it has become more of a celebrated holiday over the years we have been missionaries here, we don't celebrate much on the Mother's Day in May. I titled this post as I did, sarcastically (those of you who know me are not at all surprised by my sarcasm), because it was really not at all boring to me!

I had a beautiful day doing what God has called us to do, with the ones I love!
Right now, between the two of us, my husband and I have many friends and friends of friends who are battling cancer.
Very recently, two of them (both Mothers) have gone on to heaven,
just before Mother's Day.
As our family has gathered together to pray for these dear friends and their families,
as well as, for those families who have recently had to say goodbye to their Mothers,
it has made me so much more thankful for every opportunity to enjoy the three reasons God has given me for celebrating this special day.
I am reminded of just how short this life really is.
How I need to hug them tighter,
stop and play a game or read a book,
teach them to love the Lord with all their hearts,
show them how to work,
teach them how to pray,
prepare them for the future,
teach them to love God's word,
tuck them in real good at night,
and I remember...
All the hugs, sticky kisses, and "I Love You"s,
All the family outings,
All the 'Super Hero' fun,
Celebrating their accomplishments - big and small,

Watching them grow and learn new things,
Seeing them make new friends and pray for those friends to come to Sunday school,
Celebrating family holidays together,
Watching them come to know Christ as their Savior,
...and all the other times in between.
Thank you Lord,
for these precious children who call me "Momma".
You have blessed my life more than I could have ever imagined.
I never want to take any of it for granted.
Please help me remember each day is a gift.
and help me celebrate your goodness daily.

Beautiful post, beautiful children, and beautiful thoughts from a beautiful mother. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking a lot on the brevity of life lately, too, and thanking the Lord that He has seen fit to give me another year with my littles to teach them of Him one more wonderful year.
Thank you, Jolene! You are one of my best cheerleaders! ;) It is such a blessing to be their Momma! :)
DeleteWonderful post! I feel the same way about my precious babies and so often am struck with such an overwhelming feeling of gratefulness that I am their mama. God has surely been good to us in allowing us to train up children for him. Thanks for this sweet reminder and sharing pics of your cute kiddos. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Heather! I appreciate you commenting. God IS good! We are blessed!
